"The marriage covenant, by which a man and a woman form with each other an intimate communion of life and love, has been founded and endowed with its own special laws by the Creator. By its very nature it is ordered to the good of the couple, as well as to the generation and education of children. Christ the Lord raised marriage between the baptized to the dignity of a sacrement." CCC1660
Couples must contact the priest at least four to six months prior to the proposed wedding date. Those persons who marry civilly (outside the church) must wait six months after marriage to begin the Pre-Cana program, which also lasts approximately six months.
Couples must complete Pre-Cana to prepare for a sacramental marriage. Pre-Cana helps couples understand the sanctity of the sacrament of matrimony and to remind us that Christ is forever present in every marriage. You don’t have to choose a marriage preparation program at St. John or Our Lady; all Pre-Cana programs are designed to begin this preparation process with the teachings of the Catholic Church.
You may attend and participate in other programs, as long as they are approved by our Pastor. Pre-Cana does, however, have to be completed by every couple prior to marrying in the Roman Catholic Church.
