Altar Society - SJB

The St. John’s Rosary Altar Society is one of the oldest organizations at St. John’s, formed years ago by the ladies of the parish to assist the pastor with duties such as cleaning the church and taking care of the altar. Today, members are responsible for the church decorations, the altar cloths and linens, the candles, the priests’ vestments, and generally anything that helps make the worship space more inviting and prayerful for parishioners. Some of the members are also the church sacristans.

The Altar Society hosts the annual reception following Confirmation and the March Birthday Party at Lane Nursing Home.


Unofficially, the members help with the Capital Campaign, St. Joseph Altar, various receptions, Relay for Life, Vacation Bible School, CCD classes, clothing drives, missions and whenever and wherever they are needed.Not all members do everything because these tasks are shared among all the members.

Meetings
Meetings are held the first Thursday of each month from September to June at 10:00 am in the Parish Hall.

Membership
If you can’t attend meetings you can lend your support by paying annual dues of $10 (age 75+ is $6). Just put $10 along with your name, address, and phone number in an envelope marked Altar Society, and drop it in the collection. 

Committees
All ladies of the parish are welcome to join our organization, and if you can’t attend the meetings you may contribute in other ways such as bringing goodies for bake sales, sewing vestments and Altar linens, assisting with receptions, serving on a team of sacristans for a month, praying the rosary before Sunday Masses or at funeral homes when we are requested to do so, or by being available for other services or activities.

If you are interested in working on a committee responsible for a particular activity, simply notify the chairperson listed below or call the Church office at 225-654-5778.  You will be contacted when that committee is asked to do something.
